This is one of my hand and wheel projects that I wrapped string around and in between the string patterns I carved out the shapes it made, mostly triangles. I had squished the top together and decided to make it into a pitcher when I put a handle on it. I originally glazed it all over black but then fired it again with a white on top and made it more friendly and easy on the eyes. The art element is surface design as well as contrast . If I did this project again I would not have put the triangles in it and I would have kept it at a more simple design.
This is my multiwheel project. This is a franken pot that I made into a very tall teapot. I had stained it with black and pink flowers all around and then added a very dark blue glaze over the top. In better lighting you can see the flowers through the blue glaze and it is transparent and very pretty. The lid to the Franken Tea Pot has negative space for flowers to go into and I made sure the glaze blocked the holes to the spout so water would not fall out when it it filled up. If I were to do this project again which I plan to, I would make it much lighter and have a larger handle to support all the weight in it. I would also make sure the lid was glazed all the way because the clear is very distracting from the project. This is my groups franken finish and we had three parts to it, I made the middle and the top and Cara made the base. We glazed it with an overall black and brown, and underneath the glazing we had drawn black flowers with the stain. You can see they flowers mainly on the base because the black did not run all the way down. Next time what I would have done differently is use different glaze so the project is not as dark, if I used a lighter glaze it would look larger and more round versus the dark glaze giving it a shallow and skinny appearance. The art element is definitely the contrast between the base and the top two parts. This is a set of two mugs as a choice project. For each I tried something new with the mug on the right I wrote out in stain words and then when glazing I put wax over the words to the glaze wouldn't stick or cover them when fired, it did work to an extent but worked much better on the left mug. Using wax allows the image or words you want to have a cleaner and sharper look. I glazed both of these the same with blue and white on the inside and then green on the outside.
This is one picture of my wheel and hand project. For this I made a bowl and then decided to make a lid for it. I learned that you can take the lip of the project if big enough and create a space for a lid to rest. So I made another bowl and by flipping it up side down it created a lid when a handle was added. On the inside of the bowl is dark blue glaze with white smeared around it and on the outside is black stain in the pattern of flowers. The lid is glazed blue and in all the rings around the lid the white settled and gives the effect as if it is glowing The two pieces go well together being the bottom half is flowers and when you open it up the top of the lid relates to the inside glaze. This is my wheel altered project. On the wheel when I was throwing it the lip became too weak and I decided to let it sink into the vase. After I footed it I used many tools to scrape, rip and indent into the project little slashes that give a historic feeling of the Colosseum. After I was finished making negative space I bisqued it and then glazed it with blue green and white .The white dribbles down attracting your eyes to the negative space and all the detail between the contrast of the two colors.
this is my second plate where I used a curved pattern of lines to constant with the sharp glass in between them.
this is a plate I did using glass and clear glaze, the glaze is even and the same throughout the plate giving it harmony in the round shape.
this is a bowl with green stain and black stain on the inside, has green glaze on the outside. The curved words and trees around the bowl compliment each other
