Glazing - Contrasting the glazes
- Having glazes bleed or blend by how they were applied
- Medium size bowl
- Wide bowl
- Wavy rim wheel project
- Choice undertermined shape
- Throw shape of project in consideration to glazing options
- Decide on glaze and how it should be applied...dipped, sponged, dripped, smeared, dunked
- (put in glaze kiln)
My first semester I didnt care about how it was glazed or put any thought into it, I felt that glazing was a chore. This semster I realized how important glazing is because it is what completes the project. By making bowls and vases I decided to put more thought and creativity in how I glazed with contrasting and creating specific designs by how the glazing react with eachother. The way the glaze follows through with the shape of the project emphasizes its features.
v Conclusion
When throwing on the wheel I think of how I want to glaze the prject and what i could do differently compared to what I have already made on the wheel. On my (M) bowl I contrasted blue and white glaze and knew the tourquoise matte would run agaisnt the blue creating a swirl on the inside. On my wide bowl I dipped the colors so they would overlap eachother complimenting the shape. The more creative I got with the glazing the more thought I would put into the project when throwing. I was able to work with the shape of the project and expose all of its features by how the glaze complimented it.
